Reasons to use social media

Here are some key reasons for using social media vs. traditional media:

  1. The reach is broad. Social media can be used to connect with everything from small, targeted groups to large global audiences. Its reach is virtually unlimited.

  2. The cost is low. Social media is available to anyone at little or no cost…other than time. Most tools are easily accessible online and are free or for very little cost.

  3. The learning curve is small. Social media does not require significant training or special skills. Most of the social media tools simply require you to be able to follow easy routines, procedures or formats. There are also numerous, short training videos online, most of which are free.

  4. The results can be immediate. Social media can provide virtually instantaneous and simultaneous interaction and results. Once the message is sent, it is automatically received by interested individuals and the networking begins.

  5. The tools are fluid. Social media is dynamic and can be changed in real time. It is an ongoing communication medium that adapts to each situation as needed.

In addition to the operational benefits outlined above, unlike traditional mass media approaches, these new tools have the ability to accelerate the way in which you can create a relationship with your customer – or at least help them to perceive a more direct, transparent connection to what you and your brand are all about.
