Understanding QR Codes
QR (Quick Response) Codes may not be new to the business world, but they are now taking the mobile marketing industry to an entirely new level. They can be quickly read with camera-equipped mobile phones that are loaded with the proper code-reading software. Just snap a photo and be directed to a website, v-card, or application. A growing number of marketers such as Best Buy, Verizon, and Starbucks have been experimenting with campaigns this past year.
However, only 1% of US mobile phone owners have used a 2D bar code application. Despite low consumer awareness and adoption, interest is high. QR codes provide marketers with integrated traditional and interactive marketing campaign opportunities with precise measurement and innovative techniques. Now is a great time to experiment in promotional campaigns as well as product packaging and displays to extend to more in-depth content.
